About us
Gîte offers the ultimate escape: luxury suites with contemporary furnishings, a picturesque farm setting and yet, you will find yourself walking distance from town and all its culinary delights!
Nestled in the famous Franschhoek valley, just an hour’s drive from Cape Town with sweeping views of the Franschhoek Mountains, this self-catering accommodation offers the perfect breakaway.
Come and enjoy your stay in our stylish gîtes and relax in your own wood-fired hot tub while enjoying a glass of fine local wine. With breathtaking views on all sides, you can also just unwind with a good book and enjoy the murmuring sound of the mountain stream bordering all three suites.
The name Gîte (French) means a specific type of holiday accommodation. Gîtes are generally old farmworkers’ cottages or converted outbuildings and barns within proximity of the owner’s principal residence.
Interestingly, we actually referred to a converted barn on our farm as ‘The Gîte’ for years and then when we started thinking of a name for our newly built barn-style suites a family member proposed that Gîte is the perfect name.
Please note that we provide the following: tea, coffee, filter coffee (Terbodore) sugar, milk and basic spices. We also provide enough charcoal for 1 braai and 2 crates of wood for the hot tub.
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate children or pets.
Check-in time: 15:00 – 22:00

Our Features
Working farm
The suites are situated on a working fruit farm and at certain times of the year we might need to spray. We will always try and accommodate guests in this matter and you will always be informed in this regard. We do apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Housekeeping
Gite offers self-catering accommodation. For guests staying for longer periods of time a housekeeper can be arranged at an extra cost.
Hot tubs/Splash pool
There are few things more romantic than enjoying a glass of wine in your own private hot tub while you gaze up at the stars. Each suite has its own splash pool which doubles up as a hot tub for colder days or evenings. The water is kept warm by well-known Kol Kol heating ovens below the water level. The system is very safe and easy to control and guests will receive information on how to operate the oven on arrival. A bag of wood is provided and more can be purchased if needed

Things to do
Restaurants
Franschhoek boasts some of South Africa’s ‘Top 100’ restaurants and has become known as the country’s Culinary Capital, providing visitors with a memorable dining experience. Leading chefs create everything from cutting-edge cuisine to stylish light meals, using only the freshest local produce paired with superb local wines. Franschhoek is also a member of The Délice Network of Good Food Cities of the World. Délice is an international network of likeminded cities engaged in promoting the benefits of culinary excellence and good food. Franschhoek was granted membership to this prestigious network in October 2014, and is the only member in the Southern Hemisphere. Franschhoek also offers visitors diverse culinary experiences through its festivals such as the Franschhoek Bastille Festival, The Franschhoek Cap Classique & Champagne Festival, as well as its routes – the Food and Wine Route, the Artisan Food Route, and Franschhoek Rond en Bond.
Activities
Franschhoek may be South Africa’s Culinary Capital, but you are bound to want to explore further than our award-winning restaurants and wineries. For a wine tasting with a difference take a ride on the Franschhoek Wine Tram. Passengers aboard the hop-on hop-off tour will experience a unique and leisurely way to see the Franschhoek Valley as they journey through rolling vineyards in an open-side tram and open-air tram-bus stopping in at a selection of Franschhoek wine estates. For the more energetic there are numerous walking trails in the surrounding mountains – particularly in the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve. You can also hire a bicycle and explore on your own, or go wine tasting on horseback. Venture out to Val de Vie for some polo or opt for an exciting game of golf at the breathtaking and award-winning Pearl Valley golf course.
Galleries
As with fine food and outstanding wines, so too fine art needs to be savoured in order to be appreciated. Regarded as SA’s premier food and wine destination, Franschhoek has added art destination to its résumé. Franschhoek is home to some of the country’s finest art offerings and a growing number of local and international art enthusiasts, and so a need arose to establish Art Franschhoek, which showcases all of these and much more. The route aims to promote fine art in the valley in the same way its other strengths have been defined, namely food and wine.
Artisans
Sample the Valley’s finest artisanal and fresh produce on the Franschhoek Artisan Route. The Franschhoek Artisan Route affords visitors the opportunity to treat their taste buds to some of the finest olives, cheeses, charcuterie, artisanal breads, chocolates or craft beer Franschhoek has to offer. The term artisanal refers to anything that is hand-made or handcrafted in the style of an artisan, or skilled craftsman. Artisanal foods are made in small quantities and typically adhere to traditional methods and recipes, using high-quality and unprocessed ingredients. They are allied to the slow and local food movements, and are usually produced in a sustainable manner. Should you be pressed for time the Franschhoek Village Market on Saturdays has proven to be extremely popular and showcases many of these fine foods.
Shops
A short wander down the main road in Franschhoek uncovers world-class shops and boutiques for an intimate and relaxed shopping experience. There is truly something for everyone. Whether you are looking for wine, jewellery, designer clothing, artworks, a special gift, collectable books or chocolate you’ll find the best of these and much more along our main street. Many of our wine estates also have superb deli’s serving the best in terms of freshly baked breads, olive and olive oils, charcuterie and much more.
Wineries
The fertile Franschhoek Wine Valley is home to some of South Africa’s noble cultivars and classic styles. These range from superb whites such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon and Chenin Blanc, to the full-bodied reds of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Merlot. The area also produces some of the country’s extraordinary Méthode Cap Classiques, which can all be enjoyed during a trip along the Franschhoek MCC Route. The wines made by the Vignerons de Franschhoek can be tasted, paired with wonderful food available from Franschhoek’s restaurants, many of which are found on the wine estates. Have a look at the Franschhoek Food and Wine Route for more options.
